Terms of Use
Last updated September 21, 2026
- Only use Kite to control Macs that are yours, or that you have clear permission to control.
- Keep your Mac’s Kite password private, and only approve phones you recognize.
- Follow your employer’s or school’s rules on devices and networks they manage.
- Kite for Mac is free. Kite for iPhone is US$1.09 a month through the App Store, until you cancel.
- Kite is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and secure, but can’t promise it always will be.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Kite (“Kite”, “we”, “us”). They cover the Kite website, your Kite account, the Kite app for Mac, the phone remote, and the servers that connect your phone to your Mac (together, the “Service”). By creating an account, continuing with Google, downloading Kite or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.
2. Who can use Kite
You must be at least 13 years old to use Kite. If you’re under 18, or under the age of legal adulthood where you live, you may only use Kite with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you. You can’t use Kite if the law or a court order prohibits you from doing so.
3. Your account
- Give us an email address that’s really yours, and keep your website password to yourself.
- You’re responsible for what happens through your account. Tell us if you think someone else has got into it.
- One person per account. Don’t create accounts in someone else’s name or with an automated tool.
4. Using Kite responsibly
Kite gives a phone real control over a Mac. Because of that, you agree not to use the Service to:
- access, view or control any computer without the permission of its owner, or of the person using it;
- watch, listen to, record or track another person without their knowledge and consent, including with the home camera;
- break the rules of an employer, school or other organization on devices or networks it manages;
- do anything illegal, or help anyone else do so, including fraud, scams and “tech support” impersonation;
- spread malware, or take over, damage or disrupt anyone’s devices or data;
- probe, overload, or get around the security or limits of the Service, or use our servers for anything other than running Kite;
- copy, sell, rent out or resell the Service, or pretend to be Kite or to work for us.
Security research done in good faith is welcome: please tell us privately about any problem you find and give us a reasonable time to fix it before sharing it.
5. Your Mac, your phones, your responsibility
- Anyone who has your Mac’s Kite password and a phone you approved can do on your Mac what you could do sitting in front of it. Keep that password private, only approve phones whose six-digit code matches, and remove phones you no longer use.
- You’re responsible for what is done on your Mac through phones you approved.
- Remote control makes mistakes easy, like a mistaken tap closing a document or deleting a file. Keep backups of anything important.
- Don’t rely on Kite for anything where a failure could cause injury, serious harm or major loss.
6. The Kite app for Mac and updates
We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to install and use the Kite app on Macs you own or control, only as allowed by these terms. Kite checks for updates and, unless you turn it off in Kite’s settings, installs them automatically, because updates often fix security problems. Kite needs macOS permissions (Accessibility and Screen Recording) to work; you can switch them off at any time in System Settings.
7. Subscription, price and changes
Kite for Mac is free to download and use. Using Kite for iPhone needs a Kite subscription, sold by Apple through the App Store.
- Price. The subscription costs US$1.09 a month, or the equivalent Apple shows in your country, charged to your Apple ID.
- Offer codes. We sometimes share codes for a free period. A code is redeemed through Apple, applies once per Apple ID, and the subscription then continues at the normal price unless you cancel before the free period ends.
- Renewal. It renews automatically each month unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- Refunds. Apple handles payments and refunds under its own rules; request a refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
If we ever raise the price, we’ll tell you first, and Apple will ask for your agreement where the law or its rules require. We may add, change or remove features, set reasonable limits on use (for example, how much screen streaming our servers can carry), or stop offering the Service. We don’t promise that the Service will always be available, without interruption, or without errors.
8. Ending things
You can stop using Kite and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account, or block access to the Service, if we reasonably believe it is being used in a way that breaks these terms, puts other people at risk, or exposes us to legal liability. Where it’s reasonable and safe, we’ll tell you why. Sections 5 and 10 to 13 still apply after your account ends.
9. Other companies’ services
Kite runs on, or works with, services from other companies, including Apple (macOS), Google (optional sign-in) and Cloudflare (hosting). Your use of those services is also covered by their own terms, and we aren’t responsible for them.
10. Who owns what
The Kite software, website, name and logo belong to us. What’s on your Mac and your phone belongs to you: we don’t claim any rights to your screen, files or anything you type, and our servers only pass along encrypted data they cannot read.
11. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Some places don’t allow these warranties to be excluded, so some of this may not apply to you.
12. Limits on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Kite won’t be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, even if we were told they were possible. Our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim or US$50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.
13. If you misuse Kite
If someone makes a claim against us because you used the Service in a way that broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result, to the extent the law allows.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top, and if a change is important we’ll tell you in advance, on the website or by email, and may ask you to agree again. If you keep using Kite after a change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree to them, stop using Kite and delete your account.
15. The rest
If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a part right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later. You can’t transfer these terms to someone else; we may transfer them if Kite changes hands, under the same privacy commitments. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
